Press Releases
Statements
"I am deeply disturbed by the pain and suffering in Darfur, my heart goes out to all the victims and their loved ones. I commend the Canadian Students for Darfur for inspiring youth like myself to take action. As voices are being masked by the sounds of gunfire and warfare, it is up to each us to take a stand. We hold the power of change." -Warren Flandez , Vancouver, Musician-
"The Canadian Students for Darfur say it all, of course, in their motto: Let Never Again Mean Something." -David Kilgour , Edmonton - Beaumont, Former M.P.-
"I, with the support of my NDP colleagues, would like to join my voice with all of yours to send a strong message to the government of Canada that as long as the Sudanese people continue to struggle and die in Darfur Canadians cannot stand idly by. We need to act now." -Bill Siksay , Burnaby Douglas, M.P.-
"The horrific situation in Darfur must be stopped, and it is young leaders like the Canadian Students for Darfur that will make it happen. The group has demonstrated a determination matched only by their compassion, with vision and a grounded understanding of the complex realities in the world. Canadians and citizens of the world must become active on Darfur, and we cannot go wrong by supporting Canadian Students for Darfur." -Mark Masongsong , PACT Canada, Executive Director-
"I have had the honour of meeting with representatives of the Canadian Students for Darfur to discuss their advocacy efforts on behalf of the people of Darfur. Their work has helped to educate Canadians on the humanitarian crisis facing the people of Darfur as well as helping to put needed pressure on our Liberal government and the international community to take leadership roles in resolving this critical situation. ‘Never again’ must be our response to genocide. The desperate circumstances of refugees demand our attention and generosity.
Canadian Students for Darfur are also working to promote a national fundraising campaign to support aid agencies that are doing relief work for the people of Darfur. I would ask you to consider making a donation to the Darfur Fund to assist the people of Darfur in this time of crisis. Canadian Students for Darfur will be asking for $1 from each student in Canada. I’d urge non-students to support this campaign by matching the donation of every student you know or by giving what you can afford to this worthy cause.
As the Canadian Students for Darfur have stated, genocide is a unique crime and it requires a unique and urgent response. By acting now we can help to assist millions of people in Darfur and ensure that their needs are met during this catastrophic time.
" -Bill Siksay , Burnaby-Douglas, M.P.-
"The Responsibility to Protect provides us with an instrument to go out in the streets and hold people accountable. I call on you to act, to participate in the campaign started my the Canadian Students for Darfur to collect money aimed at helping aid work for the victims of the Darfur conflict. Get out there, get your boots dirty, it’s worth being part of humanity." -Romeo Dallaire , Canadian Senate, Senator and former Lieutenant-General-
"Our goal is to raise awareness and provide real assistance to the people in Darfur, a region the United Nations has called ‘the world’s worst humanitarian disaster. Our loyalty is with the victims of this conflict only, and we call on the government of Sudan and the rebel groups to negotiate peace and end the conflict now. The world must focus on Darfur and prevent the rape of women and girls, the destruction of villages and the killing of people. The death of over 400,000 people should be a wake up call that we have another Rwanda in the making. We must act now to save lives and to help the refugees from this modern day tragedy. All students should get involved. " -Clement Abas Apaak , CSFDarfur, Founder and Chair of CSFDarfur-
"Even those with so little can still be generous. This was what I learnt from a young boy in Sudan, who had grew up in a refugee camp, but asked me to focus my efforts on Iraq. This moment touched me deeply and I always remember it. So, even if you do not have much, you can still help the people of Darfur." -Mobina Jaffer , Canadian Senate, Senator and Special Peace Envoy to Sudan-
